Piera Levi-Montalcini

Figlia di Gino e di Maria Gattone, nasce a Torino nel 1946. Laureata in ingegneria elettronica al Politecnico di Torino, con alcuni amici crea la ADP s.r.l., società attiva nel settore delle macchine utensili e della robotica.
L’azienda progetta e produce un controllo numerico atto alla copiatura e fresatura di stampi sculturati. La rivoluzione causata nel settore dell’elettronica dall’avvento dei pc, la scomparsa dei componenti utilizzati, la necessità di riprogettare completamente il prodotto, inducono alla chiusura dell’azienda.
Nel 1994, la Fondazione Levi-Montalcini necessitando di un supporto nella gestione, la nomina vicepresidente. In questa veste affianca la Zia accompagnandola in viaggi, incontri e conferenze. Nel 1999 viene eletta vicesindaco di Ferrere, paese che, agli inizi del novecento, ha visto per lunghi anni sindaco il prozio Emanuele Montalcini. Lascia l’incarico nel 2001, per passare al Consiglio Comunale di Torino. Presidente della Commissione Olimpica nella prima tornata amministrativa e della commissione urbanistica nella seconda, rimane in carica fino al 2016.
Presidente dell’Associazione Levi-Montalcini (Torino 2002) e dell’Associazione eTutorWeb (Roma 2014), segretario dell’Associazione International Council of Human Duties (Trieste 2020), è oggi impegnata a curare gli archivi di famiglia e a sviluppare la Rete Levi-Montalcini, che lega tra loro enti e scuole intitolate a Rita Levi-Montalcini. Dal 2023 è Presidente della Levi-Montalcini Foundation, nata non solo per sviluppare una linea di continuità con l’esperienza della Fondazione Levi-Montalcini, costituita nel 1992 dalle gemelle Rita e Paola in memoria del padre Adamo, e quella dell’Associazione Levi-Montalcini fondata da Piera Levi-Montalcini nel 2002, ma soprattutto per introdurre nuovi e imprescindibili scopi istituzionali legati alla memoria della famiglia Levi-Montalcini.

Daughter of Gino and Maria Gattone, she was born in Turin in 1946. Graduated in electronic engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin, with some friends she creates ADP s.r.l., a company active in the machine tools and robotics sector.
The company designs and manufactures a numerical control suitable for copying and milling sculptured moulds. The revolution caused in the electronics sector by the advent of PCs, the disappearance of the components used, the need to completely redesign the product, lead to the closure of the company.
In 1994, the Levi-Montalcini Foundation needed management support and she was appointed vice president. In this role she he supports her aunt by accompanying her on trips, meetings and conferences. In 1999 she was elected deputy mayor of Ferrere, a town which, at the beginning of the twentieth century, saw her great-uncle Emanuele Montalcini as mayor for many years. She left office in 2001 to move to the City Council of Turin. President of the Olympic Commission in the first administrative session and of the urban planning commission in the second, she remains in office until 2016.
President of the Levi-Montalcini Association (Turin 2002) and of the eTutorWeb Association (Rome 2014), secretary of the International Council of Human Duties Association (Trieste 2020), she is today engaged in taking care of the family archives and developing the Levi-Montalcini Network, which links institutions and schools named after Rita Levi-Montalcini. Since 2023 he has been President of the Levi-Montalcini Foundation, created not only to develop a line of continuity with the experience of the Levi-Montalcini Foundation, established in 1992 by the twins Rita and Paola in memory of their father Adamo, and that of the Levi-Montalcini Association founded by Piera Levi-Montalcini in 2002, but above all to introduce new and essential institutional purposes linked to the memory of the Levi-Montalcini family.
